Lawmakers from Rivers State in the National Assembly yesterday questioned recent actions by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the ongoing hearing of the state’s governorship election petition before the tribunal.
The lawmakers, consisting both senators and members of the House of Representatives said it was wrong for the DSS to invite the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), other INEC staff as well as members of tribunal panels currently discharging the case.
The Rivers State caucus in a petition addressed to Director General of the DSS Lawal Daura and made available to journalists in Abuja said the department’s latest antics point to a plot to witch-hunt and intimidate judicial and electoral players involved in the case.
Senators George Sekibo, Olaka Nwogu, Osinachukwu Ideozu and Representatives Betty Apiafi and Blessing Nsiegbe, who signed the petition said they would henceforth resist any further interference by the department in the state’s election tribunal proceedings.
