A meeting convened by the APC governors to broker peace among feuding camps at Senate has ended in a deadlock.
The governors constituted a committee chaired by the Edo state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and the Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to mediate among the warring camps.
The committee on Sunday night summoned all the APC Senators to a meeting at the National Assembly.
It was gathered that Senator Ahmed Lawan’s group boycotted the meeting.
Senators in attendance told our correspondent that efforts by Governor Oshiomole to make the Saraki’s camp shift ground failed. “The Governor pleaded with the Saraki’s camp to shift ground and make Senator Ahmad Lawan the Senate Leader but we the Senators in attendance said no.
“We told the Governors to advise Lawan to meet the Senators from the North East. We told them that if the Senators agree to replace Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume with Lawan as Senate leader, let them submit his name,” he said.
He added: “In fact one of my colleagues told the governors to tell President Buhari to make Lawan a minister in his cabinet. We don’t see any reason for reconciliation because they have written a petition against us alleging that the Senate rules were forged”.
However, Senator Kabiru Marafa (Zamfara Central) said his group boycotted the meeting because they realised that the Saraki’s camp were not ready to abide by the directive of the party.
“We boycotted the meeting because we are solidly behind the party’s stand on the issue which President Buhari has since aligned himself with,” he said in an interview.
On the moves to suspend them for writing petition to the police over alleged forging of the Senate, he said they were ready for any eventuality. “We are inviting the public to the National Assembly tomorrow (today) to witness our resumption and the mother of all crisis, “he said.
