Seven persons were reported dead yesterday in an auto crash along the Yola-Mubi Road in Girei LGA of Adamawa State where Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla, who was travelling along the road, stopped at the scene and ordered the ambulance in his convoy to evacuate the victims to hospital.
Witnesses said a Toyota Starlet car and a Peugeot 406 car collided at Jabi Lamba during heavy rainfall.
A resident, Sani Dandija, said the heavy rainfall impeded rescue efforts by villagers and motorists until the governor’s convoy arrived the scene.
The Head of Operations of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state command, Mohammad Kabo, confirmed the death of five persons on the spot.
He noted the possibility of more casualty as some were critically injured in the accident.
