The Senator representing Niger East senatorial district in the National Assembly, David Umaru, has said the election of the leadership of the Senate is the prerogative of the Senators themselves, urging the party not to let the crisis fester unnecessarily.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Minna, Senator Umaru, while acknowledging that the party’s supremacy over its members was unquestionable, urged it to concentrate on building an enviable structure that ensured its victory at all level of elections in the recent past instead of dissipating its energy on frivolities.
The lawmaker urged the party to appreciate the constitutional roles of the legislature as the second arm of government and interfere less in its activities as doing so would further help to strengthen the independency of that arm of government.
On the issue of the appointment so far made by the Niger state government, he insisted that there was no fair sharing of positions amongst the three senatorial districts, adding that Zone B remained marginalized.
He condemned the appointment of Secretary to State Government (SSG) who he alleged was not an APC member and worked against the party during the last polls.
