Barely 48 hours to the governorship election in Bayelsa state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy chairman of ward 1in Odi community local government area of the state, Diseye Dickson has been killed by gun men.
The killing of Dickson has raised tension between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters.
In a statement issued by the Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organisation, the party alleged that the attack was carried out by suspected thugs hired by the PDP.
Daily Trust gathered that the gunmen, numbering eight, were reportedly dressed in military uniforms.
It was gathered that a woman was also injured in the buttocks by a stray bullet.
The current member of the House of Representatives representing Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma on the platform of the PDP, Douye Diri, who reacted to the incident, said it was a case of foiled kidnap attempt.
“It was not a party conflict”, Diri said.
