The Nigeria Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) in Makurdi, Benue State, has raised an alarm over the gully erosion threatening to cut off access between the barrack and other parts of the town.
NASME commander, Major-General Bamidele Ogunkale, lamented the situation while playing host to members of the correspondent the state chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He appealed to Governor Samuel Ortom to come to their aid, adding that with the government’s assistance, the formation would use its manpower to construct a befitting drainage to avert the erosion from further tampering with the only road leading in and out of the barrack.
The commander also expressed satisfaction that the civil-military approach to the fight against insurgency in the northern part of the country was yielding positive results even as he emphasised that the war against Boko Haram remains everybody’s fight.
Earlier, chairman of the chapel, Alloysius Umalo, appealed to the army hierarchy to rescind the decision to relocate its institute of technology which is housed in NASME to Ovim in Imo State.
