… Ohanaeze Ndigbo sues for peace

Niger State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it will toe the path of peace and dialogue in resolution of the region’s problem rather than agitate for the actualization of Biafra.
The association said this yesterday in Minna, during a visit to the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ) in the state.
Speaking through its state president, Chief Ezeugo Emmanuel, the body said that Igbo people are peace loving and would advocate resolution of grievances through dialogue.
It said the anguish and pain, which the last Nigeria civil war inflicted on the Igbo people, are still fresh in the minds of those who witnessed it, noting that the group would rather avoid a repeat of that experience.
It said stoking the ember of discord at the time when the nation is going through turbulent economic moment was needless, while calling on Igbos across the world to join in the country’s rebuilding process.
It urged the federal government not to use force on the agitators, but to call them to a roundtable for amicable resolution. The group said in its own contribution to a peaceful Nigeria, it has concluded plans to organize a summit in Suleja, on 12th December, 2015, under the chairmanship of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu. It said the summit would witness paper presentations by different scholars on the need for peaceful co-existence among all Nigerians.
