Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday adopted a motion seeking to control noise pollution in the state.
The motion entitled, “Need to control noise that is injurious to human health, was sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Abdul Wasi Musah and the Chairman, Parliamentary Council, Olusegun Ajanaku.
Speaker of the Assembly, Michael Adeyemo, noted that the motion was necessary to check noise pollution in the state.
He urged other lawmakers not to allow religious sentiments in their contributions, but to focus on the health of the people.
He reminded his colleagues that the law which established Ministry of Environment specifically spelt out the ministry’s responsibilities to include noise control in places of worship and commercial centres.
The Deputy Speaker, Abdul Wasi Musah noted that uncontrolled noise can result in insomnia and high blood pressure in some people, urging the executive and appropriate institutions to ensure enforcement of laws controlling noise pollution.
The motion was unanimously adopted by members of the House.
