‘Fall in education standard caused by years of neglect –Bauchi gov

Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has attributed the near collapse of education in the country to years of neglect by past administrations.
He spoke at the opening ceremony of the 4th National Conference of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and opening of its secretariat at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic(ATAP)  in Bauchi yesterday.
He said his administration will do everything possible to revive the education sector in the state.
He commended ASUP on its effort to provide direction for the government to improve the educational system in the country.
The governor said the need to diversify Nigeria’s economy has become necessary in view of dwindling oil revenue and the high expectations of Nigerians from the APC administration.
In his welcome address, the acting Rector of the polytechnic, Suleiman Mohammed Lame said the institution, since its inception in 1998, had grown from its traditional role of awarding Diploma certificates to a Center for Research and Development and training in vocational skill.  He said the conference could not have come at a better time.
He lauded the governor for his various interventions in challenges facing tertiary institutions in the state.
