Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has yeilded to workers’ demands for increased allowances.
This followed a threat by the workers to embark on a strike to press home their demand for improved conditions of service.
Daily Trust gathered that the outstanding issues were resolved at a meeting on Monday.
In the communiqué jointly signed by leaders of the three bodies and the management team of FAAN at the end of the meeting in Lagos, it was agreed that FAAN would make more money available for staff allowances while the payment of furniture allowances would commence in January.
The affected bodies include; Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN); National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and National Union of Pensioners (NUP) who were represented by Kehinde Rotimi, Olayinka Abioye and Emeka Njoku respectively.
FAAN, on its part, was represented by Abraham Inajoh and BJ Adeyemi.
According to the communiqué which was made available yesterday, FAAN accepted to meet the workers’ demands.
Modalities for the payment of 27 per cent salary arrears will be worked out before Monday, December 7. FAAN also promised to conclude all issues relating to promotion by December 17.
It said every qualified employee of the authority would be given opportunity to participate in the promotion exercise in accordance with the conditions of service.
The meeting also resolved to evolve modalities for the payment of the accrued pension benefits from Pencom, while the unions would partner FAAN to recover all debts owed the organisation.
