Federal Capital Territory Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) acting on information foiled a robbery attempt at Ungwade Jikwoyi and gunned down a suspected armed robber.
A police source said that SARS got the information and informed Jikwoyi police division who laid ambush for the notorious suspected armed robbers early in the week.
“They laid ambush on the armed robbers, and when the robbers were about striking, the policemen engaged them in a shoot-out and in the process, they overpowered the robbers and recovered one locally made pistol, AK-47 magazine with 10 live ammunitions, wrist watches and one 4 runner jeep with registration number AA 989 AE.
It was gathered that after a fierce gun duel with the hoodlums, one of the robbers who sustained severe bullet wounds as a result of the shoot-out died while being conveyed to hospital for treatment while other members of the gang fled with bullet wounds.
A police source said efforts have been intensified to track down the hoodlums who are on the run.
When contacted, the FCT police public relations officer confirmed the story and hinted that same day at Kpegyi, near Jikwoyi, a suspected motorcycle snatcher was arrested by a group of motorcyclists who were about to lynch him.
He was however rescued by police personnel attached to Kpegyi outpost and the Jikwoyi division is still investigating the matter.
