The National Universities Commission (NUC) has said that online degrees are not accepted in the country presently but may reconsidered after the commission has fine-tuned some parameters.
The Spokesperson of the Commission, Ibrahim Usman Yakasai made the remarks in Abuja while reacting to a report published in yesterday edition of Daily Trust titled: “Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, NUC square up over degrees.”
Yakasai who maintained that the country does not allow part-time cross-border education said “we wish to restate that as the Quality Assurance Agency for Universities in Nigeria, the NUC is maintaining its stand that degrees from Maryam Abacha University will not be accepted in Nigeria. “In Nigeria, the duration for a full-time degree programme is not less than 3 years for direct entry and at least 6 years for part-time,” he said.
He noted that NUC has never questioned the approval status of universities outside Nigeria, but will continue to ensure that only certificates obtained from reputable institutions are accepted in the country.
