A 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Adebayo Bisola Mayowa, was yesterday remanded in prison by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ilorin, Kwara State for allegedly defrauding one Mrs. Polly Bosede Olobayo.
It was gathered that on July 14, a petition written by a lawyer, Hassan Kehinde Garba, on behalf of Mrs Polly Bosede Olobayo, addressed to Commissioner of Police, was referred to the state Intelligence Bureau, for investigation.
However, the petitioner alleged that in September 2014, while in her shop at Kwara Hotel, Mrs Adebayo Bisola Mayowa approached her under the pretext that she wanted to buy something.
“The suspect later introduced herself as a prophetess and prophesized to have seen darkness in the victim’s shop, danger in her life and her children. The accused then prepared liquid substances for the victim to drink. Under the influence of that drink, the suspect lured the petitioner to transfer money to a certain account. The accused defrauded the victim of N10 million and warned her not to tell anybody”, the prosecution said.
It added: “In the course of police investigation, the accused admitted to the crime. A Toyota Corolla car with Reg. No. BDG 820 DK was found in her possession”.
Magistrate Mohammed Ndakene ordered that the suspected be remanded at Federal Prison Yard, Oke-Kura.
