The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Ezeikel Oyemomi, has raised alarm over the increasing rate of violence against women, children, elderly and other vulnerable persons.
In a statement issued by the ministry in Abuja yesterday, Oyemomi said these acts are inhuman and totally unacceptable and contrary to good justice, equity and peace.
He said recent reported cases include that of the deceased Comfort Uche-Ume, 14, of Umuahia in Abia State who committed suicide after being raped and that of a 30-year old Nigerian father who padlocked his four-year old son’s mouth while he battered him to death for being an “Ogbanje” (an evil child) and as such, blamed for his father’s bad luck in recent days.
