The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kebbi State chapter, in collaboration with security agencies, has pledged to take action against fake journalists operating in the state.
During an engagement with security personnel in Birnin Kebbi, the NUJ State Chairman, Garba Muhammad-Yeldu, expressed concern over the activities of unaccredited individuals posing as journalists.
He said those individuals have reportedly been intimidating and blackmailing government officials, corporate bodies and individuals to receive illicit inducements.
“The NUJ is determined to put an end to this situation. We will not stand by and allow these fake journalists to tarnish the reputation of legitimate professionals,” Yeldu said.

He stressed the union’s commitment to upholding journalistic integrity and called for collaboration with security agencies to arrest and prosecute anyone fraudulently claiming to be a journalist.
In response, both police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) assured the NUJ of their readiness to work together in identifying and prosecuting impostors.
They vowed to ensure that fake journalists are brought to justice, to serve as a warning to others.
