Ehirim, who spoke at the end of the union’s projects tour in Kuje Area Council, advocated the restoration of the one percent statutory allocation for area councils in order to help them develop.
He, however, commended the council chairman for the projects he has embarked upon, especially in the healthcare sector, observing that most of projects executed by the council are people-oriented.
“Imagine what a pregnant woman who is at the point of giving birth suffers when there is complication because there is no health facility. For the chairman to site these health centres  in all the wards, it is worthy of commendation,” he said.
Ealier, the chairman of the council, Mr. Shaban Ishaku Tete, told the team of journalists that his administration, on assumption of office, decided to halt the trend of rural-urban migration in the council.
He added that his administration had also built clinics in the rural areas to aid free access to healthcare. He noted that the decision of the FCT council of NUJ to go round the six area councils to inspect some of the projects will, no doubt, put leaders on their toes in providing democratic dividend to their people.
“The tour will motivate us to do more because service to the people is service to humanity. It will serve as encouragement to us in the council,” he said.
