The Federal University of Lafia has expressed readiness to host the 2024 Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA) zonal eliminations in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

While speaking to journalists at the 9th edition of the Inter-faculty games Tuesday, Professor Victor Dugga, who is the chairman, Sports Committee of the University said the pre-NUGA games was a preparatory ground for the institution to fish out talented players to represent the institution in Jos, which is the host of this year’s NUGA.

“We are using this year’s inter-faculty games to prepare our students (athletes) for the upcoming events later in the year and also identify and select those who will represent us at these sports events.

“We can see how important this year’s inter-faculty games are to us as an institution,” said Dugga.

He also appreciated Prof. Shehu Abdul-Rahman, the Vice Chancellor of the institution for his support towards sports in FuLafia, through the timely release of funds just as he thanked the universities management, the sports committee, and the sports directorate for all their commitment and efforts to make the pre-games competition possible.

“To our students, winning should be second to all you do as athletes and supporters. Ensure that you support your teams loudly but in an orderly manner.

“Put in your best in every game and you stand the chance to be selected to represent FuLafia at NUGA at the University of Jos later this year,” he charged the students.

Professor Dugga then appealed to all officiating officials at the ongoing inter-faculty games to be transparent and professional, noting that neither the university, its sports committee nor the sports directorate is interested in who comes first.
