Acting Director General of NNRA Professor Martin Ogharandukun, who said this in Abuja during the national workshop on basic professional training course on nuclear safety, added that the process of generating electricity through nuclear power plant was the most effective way of ensuring stable power supply across the world.
Represented by a Director at the agency Prof Timothy Akpa, Ogharandukun, however, cautioned that building a nuclear plant must be handled with care.
He said NNRA invited international experts to train its members of staff on nuclear safety to ensure proper handling of the programme.
He said International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was constantly in touch with Nigeria in its quest to develop nuclear programme.
He added: “It is apparent from the foregoing that concerns for the safe operation and regulation of Power Reactors facilitated expansion of the NNRA. This underscores the importance of safety and security to the operation of power reactors not only to Nigeria but the world over.”
