The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the full takeoff of the newly established Niger State University of Education named after the late former governor of the state, Engr Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure.
The chairman of the Implementation Committee, Prof. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, made this known at a press conference at the university’s main campus in Minna.
Kuta said the approval for the take-off was contained in a letter of approval sent to the committee on Wednesday by the NUC.
He said the university will commence full undergraduate degree programmes in the 2023/204 academic session with 41 courses across four facilities of Education, Science Education, Vocational and Technical Education and Arts and Social Sciences Education.

Prof. Kuta said NUC scored the university 100 per cent after the resource verification as a prerequisite for take-off, adding that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had been directed by the NUC to upload all the approved courses on its website for immediate take-off.
The chairman also said the state governor had approved N20 billion for the take-off, adding that manpower had already been sought to meet the teaching and learning needs of the institution.
He also noted that the committee had already set up a modern ICT centre with 1,000 computers and a computer training centre, among others.
