To deepen aviation safety, enhance training and date sharing, the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and Aero Contractors, Nigeria’s oldest airline, yesterday forged a strategic partnership.
The partnership, the first of its kind in the recent aviation industry, between an operator and an investigator, was to foster a culture of safety and invest in the future of the aviation industry.
The agreement was signed in Lagos at the Aero Contractors’ Office with the teams from both organisations present.
With the partnership, the NSIB will support Aero’s technical personnel with training in accident investigation and related areas.
The MoU also paves the way for joint conferences, symposiums and workshops to share best practices, explore emerging trends in aviation and build capacity across both workforces by deploying their respective facilities and staff, including pilots, engineers, dispatchers and flight attendants.
NSIB and Aero Contractors aim to strengthen their ability to prevent accidents, respond effectively to incidents, and uphold the highest safety standards in line with international benchmarks, such as the Standards and Recommended Practices of Annex 13 to the Chicago Convention.
Also, Aero Contractors said the partnership highlights its commitment to operational excellence and adherence to global safety standards.
Chief Executive Officer of Aero Contractors, Capt. Ado Sanusi, stated that the partnership marks a significant milestone in their collective commitment to aviation development and human safety.
“At Aero Contractors, safety is not just a regulatory requirement—it is a fundamental responsibility. This partnership with NSIB reinforces our dedication to safety through knowledge-sharing, advanced training, and data-driven decision-making. By working together, we will mitigate risks and improve overall flight safety.”
Director General of the NSIB, Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., described the partnership as a major step forward in strengthening transportation safety across Nigeria.
He disclosed that the bureau considered Aero for the partnership because of its long history of operation and enduring safety culture.
“This collaboration is a testament to the power of synergy, combining the regulatory and investigative expertise of the NSIB with the technical and operational insight of Aero Contractors. Through this MOU, we are committed to enhancing safety standards by equipping our Transportation Safety Officers with practical, hands-on experience and technical knowledge.”
