The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has condemned the continuous marginalisation of Muslims in political offices in Ekiti.
The President of the NSCIA in Ekiti State, Dr Hammed Afolabi Bakare, who spoke at a Pre-Ramadan Lecture organised in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, urged political parties to retrace their steps to win the hearts of Muslims.
Bakare said it was long overdue for another Muslim deputy governor in Ekiti State having had just one since the creation of the state in 1996.
He urged Muslims to shun divisive tendencies saying only unity could help them actualise their vision politically.
The guest lecturer, Sheikh Sufiyullahi Kamaldeen, called on Muslims to stay united and be focused on gaining the deserved attention and respect from every government.
He encouraged Muslims to play active roles in politics even before the emergence of a new government, saying political gladiators and leaders often observe and reward proactive stalwarts.
A former deputy governor in the state, Dr Sikiru Tai Lawal, said there were qualified and competent Muslims in all the existing political parties that could be chosen as either governorship or deputy governorship candidates.
