Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned against any form of violence on electoral institutions and vulnerable groups in the forthcoming general elections.
The Borno State Commandant of the NSCDC, Musa Umar Farouk, gave the warning during a two-day training organised for the police and NSCDC personnel by the Federation of Muslim Women Lawyers in Maiduguri at weekends.
He stressed that a series of meetings were being held with religious, traditional and political leaders to ensure the elections were rancour free in the state.
Speaking at the occasion the vice president of the association, Mrs Amina Agbaje, disclosed that the training with a theme, “Capacity Building of Law enforcement Agencies on prevention and response to violence against women (VAW),” was to note that the protection of women during elections was critical to their active participation.
Represented by the state chairperson, FIDA Borno State, Hafsat Baba, Agbaje noted that over the years women had become victims of election violence, adding that the narration must be addressed in the coming elections.
