The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has promised to eradicate the incessant theft of manhole covers in the FCT.
In a statement, corps’ spokesman, Olusola Odumosu, disclosed that a tactical team had been deployed to curb the menace.
He said that the NSCDC Commandant General (CG), Dr Ahmed Audi, during a visit to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello, expressed concerns over the vandalism of public infrastructures, especially manhole covers, in the FCT.
The statement reads in part: “We are in charge of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, and manholes are considered as part of such infrastructure, we are going to deploy accordingly.

“We are ready to deploy a very robust security strategy to stop manhole theft; this is very disturbing and it has to stop.
“We have seen that stealing of these items occurs even on presidential routes.
“I assure you that we will increase surveillance on manholes and deploy our tactical team for public infrastructure protection.” (NAN)
