There was pandemonium on Tuesday when an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to the Task Force on Illegal Trading and Motor Parks shot dead a bus driver in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A witness account has it that the task force ordered the bus driver to stop and that his refusal infuriated the task force as they chased him and the operative of the NSCDC opened fire and shot him dead.

Another witness account has it that the operative shot the driver on the leg in self-defence on the ground that the victim wanted to attack the operative with an axe.
Effort made by our reporter to speak with the NSCDC spokesman in Port Harcourt on the matter proved abortive as he did not respond to inquiries.
When contacted, the state’s police spokesman, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said he was not in a position to speak on the matter.
