NSCDC nabs man over kidnap, rape of minor

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested one Bello Muhammed, 28, over alleged kidnap and rape of a minor.

This was contained in a release signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Babawale Zaid Afolabi, in llorin on Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, Muhammed conspired with two other suspects who are still at large, Umar Abubakar, from Ajase lpo and one Babuga, to kidnap the victim (name withheld) of llale village, Oke-Ero in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

He said the alleged culprits dragged the victim to a bush, tied her hands and raped her severally while in their captivity.

“On Thursday, one Kelani came to the NSCDC office in Omu-Aran to report that his 15-year-old daughter was kidnapped on her way to fetch water on July 29, 2021.

“The victim was taken into the bush where she was reportedly raped severally by her abductors who later got in touch with the family demanding the sum of N15m ransom,” the spokesman said.

He said the victim’s family paid some money to the kidnappers before she was released.

“Luck ran out on one of the abductors, Bello Muhammed, who was arrested by local vigilante at Kara market, Ajase lpo and handed over to the operatives of the NSCDC.

“During interrogation, Muhammed confessed to have committed the crime with his two accomplices who are still at large,” Afolabi added.

He assured that the command was on the trail of the two other suspects, adding that Mohammed will be charged to court.
