The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has lamented the rising cases of communal clashes in Kaduna’s rural areas, stressing that investigations reveal that most crimes are committed by non-residents who flee into other communities to avoid capture.
The Assistant Commander General of the NSCDC, Zone B, Pedro Ideba Awili, who stated this in Kaduna during the commissioning of new Kaduna State command headquarters said the absence of peace would not bring development to rural communities.
The ACG, who heads NSCDC’s operations in Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa, also charged traditional rulers to ensure peaceful coexistence in their domain and contribute in information sharing with security agencies.
Pedro appealed to homeowners in Kaduna to take inventory of their tenants as a means of assisting security agencies to fish out perpetrators of crimes.
“I will appeal to landlords to have names of the people living in their residential areas to enable us to know the people that are committing crimes.
“Most crimes are committed by people who do not live in the state, and this will enable us to know them. They commit the crime and disappear, leaving residents of the state to bear the consequences,” he said.
On his part, the state NSCDC Commandant, Babangida Abdullahi Dutsinma, thanked Governor Nasir El-Rufai for donating the building for its new headquarters and assured that the gesture will go a long way in motivating personnel to carry out their duties diligently.
