Items worth thousands of naira have reportedly been recovered from a suspected five-man gang of armed robbers in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
The five suspects, according to the state commandant of the Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), George U. Edem, are all ex-convicts who regained their freedom recently.
He said his men arrested them after they successfully burgled a shop at Kasuwan Gwari in Lapai Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects are Ibrahim Idris, Ibrahim Musa, Yahuza Ibrahim, Sani Rilwan and Mikisal Ibrahim.
The items recovered from them included 75 pieces of different brands of phones, two laptops, two generators, one home theatre, two motorcycles, one LG 32 inches television and an undisclosed amount of money.
The leader of the gang, Sani Rilwan, 27, said he was selling planks but had a problem in the business that landed him in prison.
On his arrest by the men of NSCDC, Rilwan blamed the devil for engaging in the act, saying he would not do it again.
The father of two said they shared the phones and money gotten from the robbery, adding that some of them sold the phones and bought the motorcycles found with them.
Meanwhile, the commandant has commended members of the public who have been providing information for them and urged them to continue with the support so as to rid the society of bad elements.
He said the suspects would be charged to court after investigation.
