NSCDC arrests 3 for armoured cable theft in Kogi

The Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested  three persons on the allegation of vandalising armoured cables of  transformers in Ankpa and Yagba West  local government areas of the state.

The Kogi State Commandant of NSCDC, Esther Akinlade, disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday.

She  said the crime was committed on the 7th and 20th of October in Ankpa and Isanlu respectively in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.

The arrested suspects include Agbo Christian(33), James Nifemi (29) and Ibrahim Jafaru (37).

Akinlade added that the arrest was made possible by the joint effort of security guards and officers of the corps.

She stated that Agbo Christian,  from Enugu State, and others currently at large, vandalised armoured cables within the premises of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ankpa.

While James Nifemi and Ibrahim Jafaru were caught  in possession of armoured cable vandalised from the community transformer serving the community of  Ofin in Isanlu in Yagba East LGA in the  state.

“Agbo Christian was arrested on 8th of October, and on  20th of October at about 0900hrs, James Nifemi  and Ibrahim Jafaru were apprehended following a tip-off,” she said.

The civil defence boss said exhibits recovered from the suspects include saw, chisel, spanner and other tools, adding that they have confessed to the crime.
