The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday in Lafia arrested 26 people for allegedly selling fuel to commuters above the official price of N145 per litter.
Parading the suspects, NSCDC state Commandant, Muhammadu Mahmoud Fari, said the suspects were sabotaging the effort of the Federal Government by selling fuel above the official rate, adding that the command would always arrest anybody found guilty of selling fuel above government rate.
The Commandant also said filling stations hoarding fuel to sell later at higher price to black marketers would be in danger because the command would fish them out.
“They are sabotaging the effort of the Federal Government and selling fuel against the approved price. This obnoxious behaviour will not be allowed. Fuel must be sold at government price of 145 per litter.
“These people are buying fuel at N130 per litter, making profit of N15 in each litter if they are to sell at official price. Multiply N15 by 40, 000 litres and you will have more than half a million. And if you have two trucks, it is going to be about N1.3 million plus profit they are making. What do you want again? This is enough profit for you,” he said.
