The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Borno Command, says it has arrested two suspects for conniving with camp officials to divert foodstuff meant for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The Commandant of the corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Abdullahi said the food items were donated to the IDPs by the World Food Programme (WFP), a United Nations agency.

He said the two suspects were arrested at the premises of Dalori IDPs camp with about 10 bags of rice while heading to the Maiduguri Monday market.

According to him, the suspects had the intention to re-bag the commodity and sell to unsuspecting customers.

“They were arrested on Monday at about 5:50 p.m. after their vehicle developed a fault outside the camp.

“One of the suspects, Abubakar Muhammad, 27, said he slept in the camp to negotiate the price of the foodstuff with the IDPs,” the commandant said
