NRC to recover encroached rail lands in Kaduna

The Railway Property Management Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Nigerian Railway Corporation saddled with the responsibility of managing all lands and landed assets of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has embarked on the recovery of railway land that has been encroached upon across the country.

The Managing Director of the Railway Property Management Company Limited, Mr. Timothy A. Zalanga who took journalists round some railway properties in the Abakpa area in the Kaduna metropolis yesterday said that the exercise is expected to drive the company’s plan for a real time interactive land management system on a digital platform.

He said for the past three years, the company has been trying to build up its property register of all the landed properties nationwide saying, “Railway is the largest property owner in Nigeria and gradually, these lands are getting out of sight and out of record.

He called on members of the public who are illegally occupying railway lands and landed properties to regularise their stay or risk ejection. “Also, those claiming ownership of railway lands and landed properties should desist from such claims.”

Zalanga called on the illegal tenants to regularise their stay for areas that can still be given out payments in order to continue being a tenant of the railway or face eviction and demolition in order to recover railway land.

He further disclosed that the exercise will be repeated across the company’s six zonal offices including Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Kaduna, Kafanchan and Bauchi.
