The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) is partnering with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to enhance officers’ welfare for effective policing of the country.
This was an outcome of the visit of the NPTF Executive Secretary, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, to NIMASA Director-General, Bashir Yusuf Jamoh.
Sokoto said to enhance the welfare of police officers and men, the NPTF had decided to diversify.
He said the monthly 0.5 percent of the total revenue accrue to the federation account allocated to the NPTF needed to be augmented to address the challenges facing the Nigeria Police Force.
Responding, the NIMASA DG advised the NPTF to pay more attention to welfare, compensation and rewards of police personnel for effective policing.
He assured of the NIMASA’s readiness to partner with the NPTF to make the police effective and efficient.
He advocated proper enlightenment of the citizens on country’s laws to reduce crime rate.
According to him, when citizens are informed about the laws and the consequences for violation, many would be scared to commit crime.
