NPFL23: Niger Tornadoes compound Dakkada woes in Uyo

It has gone from bad to worse for Dakkada FC as they earned a seventh league loss in the first game of the second stanza of the 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Dakkada who are swimming in relegation waters and are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season lost 2-1 to visiting Niger Tornadoes in a Group B clash at the Nest of Champions, Uyo Saturday.

The Ikon Allah boys got to a dream start when in the 6th minute, David Okoromi dazzled inside the box and slotted home coolly to give his side an early lead.

Stunned by the early goal as they set an unwanted record of now conceding in 10 consecutive NPFL matches had a chance to draw levels during a goal-mouth melee but the Dakkada player shot the ball high.

A few minutes later, the visitors increased their lead through Jonas Emmanuel whose chip was beyond the keepers’ reach.

Buoyed by the lead, Niger Tornadoes were in cruise control of the game while looking for the third goal which failed to come.

With the first half about to end, keeper George Michael was tested by the host and he showed his ability to produce a stunning save from an indirect free-kick to keep the scoreline 2-0 going into the second half.

At the restart of the second half, it was all about Dakkada seeking a way back into the game but their efforts were thwarted by the keeper, Michael who made several saves.

He was forced to pick the ball from his inside his net after Aniekan Ekpe sent him the wrong way from the penalty spot in the 94th minute as the game ended 2-1.

Following this result, Niger Tornadoes are 4th on the log table with 15 points while Dakkada is rooted at the base with seven points. Meanwhile, the remaining Match Day 10 fixtures will be played tomorrow.
