The transfer season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will close on the 30th of September, 2022 ahead of the new season, which will kick off at a date to be announced.

This is contained in a strange circular signed by Davidson Owumi who identified himself as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria Professional Football League as against the ‘illegal’ League Management Company (LMC).

It will be recalled that the federal government through the sports ministry declared the LMC who are the operator of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) illegal while the LMC has insisted that the body is legally situated both in football laws and regulations.

However, Owumi in the circular dated September 14, 2022 urged the clubs to finish their dealings before the deadline as extension of the transfer season is not guaranteed.

“Be informed that the transfer window for the forthcoming 2022/2023 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League is scheduled to come to a close on 30 September 2022. Hence, clubs still active in the transfer market are advised to round off their dealings on or before the stated date as there are no guarantees that the deadlines will be extended,” he said.

The circular did not however reveal the kick-off date for the league but urged the clubs to complete the necessary club licensing ahead of the new season.

“Note that preparations for the kick-off for the new 2022/20323 season are in top gear, hence you are urged to ensure that you proceed with your club licensing procedures and player registration exercises, along with other pre-season prerequisites,” the circular said.
