NPFL stars not scared of Mexico, says Pillars’ Auwalu Ali

At the end of the camping exercise, only 22 out of the 25 players will make the trip

Kano Pillars attacking winger, Auwalu Ali ‘Malam’ has said the Nigeria Professional Football League stars invited to camp for the international friendly with Mexico are not afraid to face the CONCACAF Champions.

At the moment, the 25 players invited to camp for the July 3 friendly match in the USA are training in Abuja.

At the end of the camping exercise, only 22 out of the 25 players will make the trip to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum USA.

In a chat with Daily Trust, Auwalu Ali said for many of them, playing against a strong football country like Mexico will be a baptism of fire but they are not scared.

He said football is the same everywhere so even as Mexico is going to feature some of the world’s best players, the NPFL stars shouldn’t be written off before the match is played.

Auwalu who is one of the leading goal scorers in Kano Pillars also said by the grace of God, they are not going to disappoint Nigerians.

“I know that many people are wondering how we would cope with Mexico who are going to parade more experienced players but that is not an issue.

“Football is the same anywhere you go. We are not afraid. We shall go in there and do what is expected of us.

“We are not under any form of pressure. Our coaches have made us understand that the most important thing in the match is not the result but our performance as a team.

“So, the stage is big but we are equal to the task. All we need is the support of Nigerians. We are not going to disappoint them,” he said.
