Ghe National Population Commission (NPC) has trained journalists in Taraba State on census reporting.
The training is to build the capacity of media practitioners ahead of the conduct of the national census in the country.
The NPC federal commissioner, Alhaji Sani Sule Sale, said in a speech during the one-day workshop that media practitioners were trained to acquire knowledge and skills to effectively report the population and housing census in the state.
He said the workshop was specifically designed to improve the capacity of journalists to effectively and professionally report the census processes to get good results and acceptable census.
Security challenges not a threat to 2023 census – NPC
Alhaji Sani Sule Sale stated that the commission was committed to training the journalists to have first-hand knowledge of the data of the entire populace ranging from demographic information, social, and economic value and fertility and mortality rate of citizens and migrants of the country.
He said journalists have greater roles to play in ensuring the success of the census in the state and the country in general.
Mr llori Isreal Olusegun, NPC state director, urged journalists in both electronic and print media to enlighten the public on the importance of the census to national development.
