The National Population Commission (NPC) has completed the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) in six local government areas of Kaduna state.

The local government includes Zaria, Sabon Gari, Kudan, Makarfi, Giwa and Soba.

Our correspondent reports that the exercise which is conducted after every five years commenced in December 2023 and will last till April 2024.

The NPC State Director, Hajiya Adama Othman, disclosed this yesterday in Kaduna at a briefing to officially launch the exercise, saying that the survey will be held in all enumerated areas where at least 30 households, randomly selected, will be interviewed in each participating local government.

Represented by the Head of Department (HOD), Administration, Hajiya Zeliha Wali, the state director explained that the data will be collected from the 23 LGA’s through 43 clusters that have been selected to collect data.

She said, “For over three decades, the National Population Commission has spearheaded the implementation of the NDHS, in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and other key partners. This survey has been instrumental in providing invaluable insights that inform evidence-based policies, enhance public health interventions, and contribute to the development agenda of our nation.

“Together, we have elevated this survey from a research initiative to a cornerstone of dependable demographic and health metrics of Nigeria.

“The objective of the survey is to provide up-to-date information on fertility, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, adult and child mortality, domestic violence, breast cancer, tuberculosis and other health issues.”

She noted that the data collected and analysed will not merely be of numerical value, but will represent the health, aspirations and challenges of the communities saying, “Researchers, administrators and policy makers, hold a critical role in ensuring the success of this survey.”
