NOUN matriculates 37 inmates in Ogun

The National Open University of Nigeria, Abeokuta study centre, on Tuesday, matriculated 37 inmates from the Nigeria Correctional Service, Abeokuta.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, in his address delivered by a director from the Abeokuta study centre, Olusegun Adenuga, said the institution is determined to make learning rewarding and satisfactory for the inmates and other students.

He, however, urged them irrespective of their challenges, to remain resolute at all times.

“You are now our ambassadors. We are aware that many of you are engaged in diverse, productive and challenging ventures, jobs, positive and value – adding initiatives in society.

“I challenge you to be studious, thirst for knowledge, test limits of ideas, be exploratory and of good courage,” he said.

On his part, the controller of centre in Ogun, Mojeed Olaniran, said the step taken by the matriculating students is one that will make the society better.

He called on members of the public not to stigmatise inmates upon their release from the correction centre.
