Nothing strange about insecurity in Nigeria – Clergy

Rev Ifeanyi Nwachukwu, the Pastor in charge of Overcomers Christian Mission, Abuja headquarters, has said there is nothing strange about the insecurity challenges Nigeria is currently experiencing.
He made this observation when speaking to the press during the Fathers’ Day celebration in the church on Sunday.
“No country is without problems. The point is that problems are inevitable and when it comes, there is a need for people to gather and seek solutions.
“If we, Nigerians, can gather together and seek the face of God, there is no problem without a solution,” he said.
He, however, said the division in the country was working against finding solutions to the problems.
While noting that prayer is the answer to all problems, the clergy added that: “Let’s seek for peace. Let’s come together…irrespective of background, irrespective of ethnicity.”
He also harped on forgiveness, love and tolerance in order to have peace.
Solving insecurity in Nigeria from home
Speaking on the topic: “Child upbringing in a Christian family – An antidote to crime”, Deputy Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (rtd), Ewurum Evans Chidi, said the crimes in the society would be minimised if parents could bring their children up in the right way.
“Children upbringing is one of the most formidable tasks parents are expected to take on in life considering the fact that the family is the first school…where we learn to relate to others, to listen, to share, to be patient and show respect, to help one another and to live as one, yet the family seem to shy away from their primary responsibility.
“The byproduct of this neglect by our parents has brought with it negative influences on our children…All these negative influences on our children seem to threaten the corporate existence of this country through a variety of crimes.”
He said, to tackle the situation, the men fellowship of the church had decided to launch a campaign to enable the family to resume its neglected primary role of “bringing up the child in a Godly way”.
“This will help reduce the moral decadence that has caused more harm than good in our society today,” he added.
On his part, Hon Chuka Ama Nwauwa, while speaking on the topic “Maintaining peace in a Christian home”, charged parents to pursue peace in their respective homes.
He said: “The benefits of peace are invaluable and it is the ingredient for every societal development and even family progress.
“No progress can be made in any society or family when peace is lacking.
“The peace in families is the peace that radiates into the larger societies. If families appreciate, nurture and live in peace, our society will be peaceful.”
