The third edition of the Zenith Bank/Delta Headmaster’ football competition kicked-off yesterday with Nosiere Primary School 1 Agbor defeating Uzoigwe Primary School, Asaba 5-2 in the opening match.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the grassroots tournament which is sponsored by Zenith Bank, the governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa assured of his administration’s resolve to provide an enabling environment for youths and sports development.

Represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, the governor said that Delta State has always remained a sports destination in the country.

 He said that the state government would mentor and expose the players in such a way that they could compete with any other youths globally.

The State Commissioner for Primary Education in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chika Ossai, described the Headmasters’ Cup football competition as a good platform for the pupils to showcase their talents.

He, therefore, advised the players to make the best use of the tournament, saying that the players had the qualities to compete with their mates anywhere in the world.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank PLC, Mr. Ijeoma Monday Okowa said that the 2021 competition was the maiden edition of the bank partnership with the state government in the Headmasters’ Cup football competition.

He added that the youth football tournament would continue to be staged every year in the state.
