Prominent groups in the North, including Arewa Consultative Forum (NEF) and Northern Elders Forum (NEF), under the aegis of Arewa Joint Committee (AJC) yesterday said they will engage six presidential candidates on the plight of the region ahead of the general elections.
The other groups include Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF), Jamiyyar Matan Arewa (JMA), Arewa House (Centre for Historical Development and Research) and the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP).

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kaduna on behalf of the committee, the Director General, SABMF who is the secretary of the committee, Engineer Abubakar Gambo Umar, said the committee will engage Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (APC), Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (NNPP), Peter Obi (LP) and two others.
“The candidates, who will interact with a select group of leaders and elders from across the North, will be those of the APC, NNPP, PDP, PRP, LP and SDP. It is likely that other candidates will be invited at a later date.
“We are grateful to the candidates and parties who have agreed to participate in these engagements. The goals of the engagements are basically to improve the understanding of the presidential candidates on issues that are central to the interests of the North as we embark on the defining search for good leaders that should emerge in 2023,” he said.
