The Northern Governors’ Wives Forum has called for increased participation of women in Nigerian politics to allow them adequate opportunities to contribute to nation building.
The new chairperson of the forum and wife of Kaduna State Governor, Mrs Hadiza El-Rufai, made the call in Abuja, shortly after she was unanimously elected by members for a two-year term.
She said despite the calibre of women that abound in the country, Nigeria still has a poor record of participation of women in politics.
“I think what we should do is to keep mounting pressure so that they would legislate for a certain percentage of seats to be reserved for women,” she said.
