Northern Govs not realistic – NYF leader…Jonathan free to contest

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, Bashir said “the governors do not want zoning because they know that they would not come back,”  adding that in the first place the zoning thing is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) affair and wondered why all the northern governors got themselves involved in it.

Basher said given that zoning is a gentle man agreement among PDP members, and the fact that it is  not provided for in the constutition, every qualified Nigerian should and is free to contest the presidential election.

“It is on this strength that we are calling on President Goodluck Jonathan, as a qualified Nigerian to feel free to join the presidential race for the 2010 elections,” the statement noted.

The NYF chairman argued that them as northerners are not by their call on President Jonathan to contest next year’s presidential election selling out, “this is not sentiments. The north has had a fare share of the country’s top leadership more than any other region, is therefore only logical that people of other areas other than North should be allowed to also take their turns.

“Even if the North is given the slot again, the area will not change for the better. In any case, it is not just about North but Nigeria, let the other people who have been clamouring for this position be given a sense of belonging.

“This North that people are talking about, where is at after all?  They are not realistic, if they were why did they allow the NNDC, NNN and the textile factories, among many of its joint interests to collapse?” the youth chairman asked and challenged northern leaders to retrace their steps as far as zoning is concerned currently.

He said if an African Barack Obama can become a president in his non-native land the United States, it is all the more logical for President Jonathan to vie for his country’s presidential poll, and if he sop wins, let him be president.
