This once peaceful town has continuously found its way into news headlines for the wrong reasons, as armed bandits invade the town and dispossess inhabitants of their belongings.

After the last incident few weeks ago, the state governor was in the town to commiserate with residents and to assure them of the government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the issue. But these assurances are routine not new, because after every incidence nothing is done thereafter.
During that visit the governor granted an interview to the Hausa service of the VOA, in which he sounded helpless due to the enormity of the challenges is on ground, and confirmed his intention to host a meeting of other governors of states that share common boundary with Kaduna so as to finding a lasting solution to the menace. The bandits often use the very thick forest that borders Kaduna, Niger, Katsina and Kebbi State as a shield and hideout to commit their crimes.
Since I don’t know what the agenda of the frequent Northern Governors’ Forum meeting often contains, I suggest that the next one should have the following “Matters arising” issues appended to it:
We have states in the North. Each of these states should invest 5 million naira for a period of 1year, bringing the total to 95 million naira. This amount should be transferred in to the account of the New Nigerian Development Company with the mandate to clear the whole of the forest and Jatropha and oil-palm planted, within the next five years the North should be on its way to becoming a bio-diesel producing  giant, thereby earning more money for the states that have invested funds.
I’m not certain if any governor would read this letter, as they may consider it a waste of their time; but the earlier they started thinking of putting all the lands in the north to better use the better for all of us, because we Northerners are becoming too fed up of being called parasites, even though we are a hardworking people.
