Governor Lalong while performing the ceremony at an event held on Thursday at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Lafia, Nasarawa State said the establishment of the Committee was in line with the resolutions reached during a recent meeting of NGF in Kaduna State.
The committee is headed by the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Mohammed Bage (Rtd) with other traditional rulers of the 19 northern states as members.
According to him “we are conscious of the fact that giving the traditional rulers more roles in governance will require constitutional amendment, hence the setting up of this committee to look into the matter and advice the northern governor’s forum on how best to pursue this desire”
Lalong said, there is no doubt that the traditional institution plays a very significant role in the governance of the nation despite not having a formal role within the constitution.
