Doctors from six Northern states have commenced intensive training on kidney transplant and urology at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano State.

The training, supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), aims to equip the doctors with the necessary skills and knowledge, alongside new machines and equipment, to conduct effective kidney transplants.

Speaking at the opening ceremony yesterday, the vice chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu, highlighted AKTH’s track record in kidney transplants, having performed over 100 since its inception in 2002.

He emphasised the importance of sustainability and extending these services to other health facilities.
