Northern coalition sues N/Assembly over constitution review

The Coalition of Northern Group has sued the National Assembly, praying that the ongoing constitutional review be halted with immediate effect.

The suit, filed by the plaintiff and leadership of the group, Nastura Ashir Shariff, Balarabe Rufa’i l, Abdul-aziz Sulaiman and Aminu Adam, joined the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the National Assembly as defendants.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja Thursday, CNG spokesman, Abdul-Aziz Sulaiman, said the defendants should rather provide a framework for actualisation of agitators’ demand on self-determination.

Sulaiman said: “There’s already a pending suit before this Hon. Court (this matter) challenging the process of reviewing/further amending the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) by the 2nd – 4th Defendants/Respondents when there’s a violent agitation by some groups of persons for an Independent State of Biafra from the south – eastern part of Nigeria.
