NorthEast Labour party presidential spokesman, others dump Obi, join Atiku

The Spokesman of Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council in North East Muhammad Pantami, other officials and their teaming supporters has dumped the party and decamp to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing a press conference Tuesday in Bauchi, Pantami flanked by other officials of the LP Campaign Council declared their support for PDP Presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Pantami said they decided to dump and LP and its presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi for lack of internal democracy.

“Based on the aforementioned issues raised, we the leaders, stakeholders and about four million voters in six states of the North East of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi Gombe and Borno resolved firmly that the following decisions become sacrosanct.

‘”We resigned our membership from Labour Party, defected to Peoples Democratic Party and also resolved to declare our full support to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Pantami said.

Pantami explained that the stream politicking decision of the party and the presidential campaign council is tilted towards a particular region, thereby sideling northerners,

“We the northerners, constitute about 65 percent of the voting in the presidential election, our members are totally not satisfied with this situation. Despite the fact that the north has greater percentage of voters, this problem of sideling persists, the current situation calls for action.

“Our members do not get complete information about internal functioning of the party. Power inside the party are concentrated among the leaders, and not all members are able to influence decisions most especially the northern block are not involve in the process of decision making in the party.

“We only see politicking activities going or asked to something without adequate time and other resources prepare effectively. Unlike the southerners, lack of federal character is the order of the day. Loyalty towards leaders become more important that loyalty to the party principles, policies and patriotism.

“Acute lack of of proper engagement of stakeholders, leaders and presidential campaign council members from the north is one of the major issues many of us find it much necessary to find an alternative platform for our political engagement, leadership actors and inactions do not bind leaders and followers together in a mutual and continuing pursuit of a higher purpose, thereby reduces highly the possibility of success in the 2023 presidential election.”
