Governors of the North East states have resolved to work with Shanghai Electric to construct either a 60 MW coal power plant or a 50 MW solar power plant in each state of the region.
This decision was made at the Northeast Governors’ Forum’s 9th regional meeting, which took place in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, on Saturday.
The forum recognised the need for a robust platform for regional economic development and resolved to work together as an entity to strengthen human capacity and socio-economic development in the region.
However, the governors expressed their concern about the poor infrastructural base of the region, particularly the neglected federal roads within and between the states.

The forum called on the Federal Ministry of Works to follow through with road contracts awarded in the region, as the poor road network is fueling insecurity, stalling development, and making life more difficult for people in the area.
The forum also acknowledged the improving security situation in the region but noted the need for more collaboration among member states in designing the security architecture for the region.
The forum resolved to work more closely with security agencies to develop a common security roadmap for the North East.
