The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I Jibrin, has expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will assent to the North West Development Commission (NWDC) Bill to address the avalanche of challenges bedevilling the region.
Senator Barau, the bill’s sponsor, stated that all was set for the transmission of the bill to the presidency for assent as both chambers of the National Assembly had passed it.
In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau said the passage of the bill aligned with the commitment of President Tinubu to transform the country and return it to the path of progress and prosperity.
Daily Trust reports that the bill was recently passed by both chambers of the National Assembly as part of efforts to address the challenges facing the seven states in the North West: Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara, and the country as a whole.

Describing the North West as the country’s food basket, Senator Barau said that the commission would work towards the restoration of infrastructure destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in the region.
